The recent release of documents from the Democratic National Committee and Clinton campaign by the anti-secrecy group WikiLeaks has proven what many of us have known for many years–big media, erroneously referred to as the mainstream media–are completely corrupt.
The level of systemic corruption in modern American journalism, once a trade dominated by the working class, is rivaled only by the government they were entrusted by the people to oversee and hold accountable. They have been corrupted by the very halls of power in which they intended to guard. Our Founding Fathers understood that a free society governing itself relied upon a watchdog press having an adversarial relationship with those in power, no matter their party.
But adversaries have turned into allies, forming a corrupt alliance against the American people, our freedoms and interests.
On October 13, 1785, Thomas Jefferson wrote to G. K. van Hogendorp warning of the dangers of such an alliance.
“[A despotic] government always [keeps] a kind of standing army of newswriters who, without any regard to truth or to what should be like truth, [invent] and put into the papers whatever might serve the ministers. This suffices with the mass of the people who have no means of distinguishing the false from the true paragraphs of a newspaper.”
Jefferson knew this ends only two ways if allowed to continue unchecked–tyranny or revolution–in the latter’s case the former may very well inevitably follow.
“This formidable censor of the public functionaries, by arraigning them at the tribunal of public opinion, produces reform peaceably, which must otherwise be done by revolution,” he wrote –Thomas Jefferson to A. Coray in 1823. “It is also the best instrument for enlightening the mind of man and improving him as a rational, moral, and social being.”
It doesn’t have to continue like this or end worse. There is something you can do and that is why we are asking you to help us fight back. At PPD, we do not believe this corruption will end unless corporations and Big Media is eventually undermined by outlets funded by those they are meant to serve, rather than corporations, special interests and status quo powers with an agenda.
People’s Pundit Daily is one of the few alternative media outlets not funded by corporate sponsors or big media investors. At PPD, we are solely funded by individual subscriptions and, now, individual donations.
Your financial support is vital to something we cherish, a cause we believe in–-providing the citizenry independent journalism, data journalism and an alternative to corporate, government-corrupted big media. We can’t promise not to offer our opinion or the opinions of others. No media outlet can make such a promise. But we can and do promise never to collaborate, collude with or be corrupted by those who claim they seek to serve you, your families and the nation.
At this critical moment in history, your contribution to People’s Pundit Daily will make an immediate difference. Stand with People’s Pundit Daily and ask your fellow Americans to do the same by sharing this advertorial with others you know.
All of us at PPD would like to extend our heartfelt thanks for your support and contribution!
