Report Leaks Trump’s VP: It’s Trump-Pence 2016?

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, left, and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, right.

The Indy Star confirmed that Indiana Gov. Mike Pence is going to be Donald Trump’s vice presidential running mate. The Indiana governor has decided not to run for re-election, as running for two offices at that same time is not allowed in the Hoosier State.

“Gov. Mike Pence is dropping his re-election bid in Indiana to become Donald Trump’s running mate,” the paper reported. “IndyStar has confirmed that Trump plans to announce Pence as his selection for vice president, ending a weeks-long vice presidential casting call during which Trump vetted a handful of high-profile Republicans.”

However, Paul Manafort, Mr. Trump’s campaign manager and his senior communications adviser, Jason Miller, tweeted that no decision has been made.

“The pick, if true, is a clear indication that the Trump campaign understands that his path of victory runs through Rust Belt America,” said PPD’s senior political analyst Richard Baris. “He is already running way ahead of both Mitt Romney and John McCain in states such as Pennsylvania, Ohio and Iowa. Gov. Mike Pence is the governor of a once-competitive must-win Rust Belt state, who also has considerable experience on Capitol Hill and as an executive.”

In other words, Baris says he checks most of the prerequisite boxes. People’s Pundit Daily previously reported that the decision had come down to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Gov. Pence.

Mr. Trump has reversed his decline in the polls and now leads Hillary Clinton in the key battleground states of Iowa, Pennsylvania and Florida. He is roughly tied in Ohio, leading within the margin of error. The latest national tracking poll conducted by Rasmussen Reports finds Mr. Trump ahead by 7 points.
