Justice Department Study Found Assault Weapons Ban Didn’t Work

The Justice Department commissioned a study on the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban. Surprisingly, even the government-funded study the gun bans did not work.

“We cannot clearly credit the ban with any of the nation’s recent drop in gun violence,” the study concluded in 2004. “Should it be renewed, the ban’s effects on gun violence are likely to be small at best and perhaps too small for reliable measurement.”

In “The Gun Debate: What Everyone Needs to Know,” Duke University public policy experts Philip Cook and Kristin Goss couldn’t be more clear.

“There is no compelling evidence that it saved lives,” they wrote.

I thought that this would be appropriate to share before another tragedy is used to exploit political agendas, such as the despicable display from Piers Morgan and Barack Obama after the Newtown shooting.

Naturally, the study leaves the door open for LCM bans, calling the measure perhaps a more appropriate step.

Unfortunately, the ignorance from the Ivory Tower is amazing. If they took their out of the clouds and into the real-world for a spell, then they would know that it takes all of a trip to Home Depot and a hammer in order to make a LCM.

As a matter of fact, I will include below a chart on gun laws to illustrate the larger point on bans of anything. Society makes decision, and in a free society, you cannot claim the freedom without claiming the responsibility as well.
