Bipartisan Letter Sent Advocating Reform to Military-Industrial Complex

Progressives are all about big government and big spending, but the GOP have long kept their sacred cow – the military-industrial complex – fat and healthy, as well as exempt from real reform or spending restraints.

Today, however, a bipartisan letter was sent to Secretary Hagel, Chairman Levin, Ranking Member Inhofe, Chairman McKeon, Ranking Member Smith, Chairman Durbin, Ranking Member Cochran, Chairman Young, and Ranking Member Visclosky urging reform to the defense budget that would clearly impact the military-industrial complex.

President Eisenhower, in his farewell address, gave what is now an infamous warning to the American people regarding the military-industrial complex. As Eisenhower phrased it, there are no “countervailing forces” to curb special interest in the defense industry, and our foreign policy has been stuck in the liberal internationalist theory as the funds to supply it, have never been in doubt.

The letter printed in the Hill publication today certainly will not satisfy the libertarian movement, and as well it shouldn’t, but the letter is at the very least a good start.

Bipartisan Defense Reform Letter
