Private nonfarm business sector multifactor productivity increased at a 0.3 percent annual rate in 2013, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday. The slight increase in multifactor productivity was the smallest annual change since a 0.3-percent decline in 2009.

Multifactor productivity measures the change in output per unit of combined capital and labor input, or put simply, the productivity of the American worker with the tools he or she has at their disposal. It is designed to measure the joint influences of technological change, efficiency improvements, returns to scale, reallocation of resources and various other factors on economic growth. Unlike other similar measurements, it allows for the effects of capital and labor.

The multifactor productivity increase in 2013 was largely due to a 2.3 percent uptick in output and a 1.9 percent gain in the combined inputs of capital and labor. Further, Capital services grew by 1.9 percent, while labor input — which measures the number of hours worked and the labor composition combined — grew by 1.9 percent.

Capital services per hour of all persons slightly increased at a rate of 0.3 percent in 2013, up from the loss of 0.8 percent in 2012 and another loss of 1.1 percent in 2011.

Trends in multifactor productivity are not something to be optimistic about. Individual productivity, or the output per hour of all persons, for private businesses has averaged roughly 1.3 units since President Obama took office, compared to the nearly 2.7 units during the Reagan administration and the 2.35 during the Clinton administration. Private non-farm businesses saw just 1.3 averaged over the same 2009 – 2013 period.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Wednesday on “Hannity” that President Obama needs to act now to stop the surge in illegal immigrants flooding across his state’s border, calling it “a humanitarian crisis that he has the ability to stop.”

The Republican governor of Texas warned the president in a letter sent more than two years ago. Perry said the influx of unaccompanied children crossing the southern border, citing federal statistics, had shot up 90 percent.

“By failing to take immediate action to return these minors to their countries of origin and prevent and discourage others from coming here, the federal government is perpetuating the problem,” Perry wrote to Obama in May 2012. “Inaction encourages other minors to place themselves in extremely dangerous situations. . . .Every day of delay risks more lives. Every child allowed to remain encourages hundreds more to attempt the journey.”

While both sides called the meeting Wednesday “constructive,” Perry expressed concern that the president didn’t seem to believe he needed to take immediate action as commander-in-chief to stop the illegal border crossings that have now resulted in a full-fledged humanitarian crisis.

“You know, I was like, Mr. President, you can deal with this. You can unilaterally direct the Department of Defense to put those troops on the border…” he said, later adding, “The president needs to understand that the single most important thing that he can do is put the National Guard on the border to coordinate with local law enforcement, with state law enforcement, with the border patrol…”

President Obama said after the meeting Wednesday that sending the National Guard would be a temporary fix. However, critics say, including the Border Patrol union, that the president should act to at least stop the numbers from increasing. A Border Patrol union confirmed Monday that many of the illegal immigrants coming into the U.S. have “active scabies and other illnesses,” and that agents have already contracted the mite-borne skin infection. The union warned disease could spread into surrounding communities and others — like the community in Murrieta, California, which turned back busloads transporting illegal immigrants into the town.

Perry also criticized Obama for not visiting the border on his trip to Texas, while Obama said in a press conference Wednesday that doing so would be engaging in political “theater” and not productive. Even Democrats are joining in on the criticism, many of whom worry about the optics of blowing off the border for a beer with Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper a day earlier before a fundraiser.

“I’m pretty sure that if George Bush had said ‘well I sent my FEMA director multiple times’ he still would have been criticized greatly,” Perry said. “Because you need to go. That’s what governors do, that’s what presidents do. When there are natural disasters, when there are crises like these, a president needs to be there to show the American people number one that he understands.”

Others have pointed out that the border crisis could not be compared to Hurricane Katrina, because unlike the border crisis, Katrina was not a created crisis.

house hearing va whistleblowers

July 8, 2014: VA whistleblowers are sworn-in to testify before the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee hearing on the Department of Veteran Affairs supplying inadequate services, on Capitol Hill in Washington. (Photo: AP)

Four VA whistleblowers gave shocking testimony at a House hearing Tuesday night that revealed a culture of corruption, intimidation and retaliation at the Department of Veterans Affairs. The employees said they subjected to harassment, placed on unjustified leave and faced various other methods of retaliation when they raised the red flag on the agency we know is responsible for countless veterans’ deaths.

The independent Office of Special Counsel has been looking into 67 claims of various forms of retaliation by supervisors at the VA, including 25 complaints filed after June 1, roughly the same time the VA scandal involving long patient waits and falsified records was reported. The complaints were filed in 28 states at 45 facilities, Special Counsel Carolyn Lerner said.

Lerner said that she has been able to stop disciplinary and retaliatory actions against several VA employees attempting to blow the whistle on corruption in the agency, including one who reported a crime at a VA facility in New York. In one instance, her office was able to correct the suspension of a VA employee in Hawaii who blew the whistle on an employee who was inappropriately restraining an elderly person in a wheelchair.

While the whistleblower in this case was granted full back pay and a separate, undisclosed monetary payment, according to testimony from Lerner this case is not the norm.

The VA often “has ignored or attempted to minimize problems” highlighted by whistleblowers, ” allowing serious issues to fester and grow,” she told  the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee.

The whistleblowers testified that retaliation for reporting misconduct was the norm at the VA. Even more disturbing, there is a clear political agenda in the bureaucracy that effectively attacks those who either don’t agree with them or report wrongdoing.

Scott Davis, a program specialist at the VA’s Health Eligibility Center in Atlanta, testified that he was placed on involuntary leave after reporting that officials were “wasting millions of dollars” on a direct mail marketing campaign to promote ObamaCare. Davis also reported the possible purging and deleting of at least 10,000 veterans’ health records. In what sounded like a tactic straight out of the IRS playbook, officials at the Atlanta center can easily delete or falsify records and documents to cover up backlog, corruption and mismanagement.

Even worse still, Davis alleged that after he filed a complaint directly to White House Deputy Chief of Staff Rob Nabors, someone from the White House leaked it to his manager and he was subjected to “harassment.”

Dr. Christian Head, who works in the Legal and Quality Assurance department of the Greater Los Angeles VA Health Care System, testified about his experience after he was tasked with investigating allegations of time card fraud. After reporting his findings, which exposed corruption on the part of the VA officials investigated, he was labeled a “rat” and repeatedly humiliated in front of hundreds of employees.

“Retaliation culture is a cancer to the VA,” he said.

Dr. Katherine Mitchell, a doctor at the Phoenix veterans hospital, which has been ground zero for the VA scandal, said she was harassed after speaking up about dozens of veterans who died while on falsified waiting lists.

Dr. Mitchell, a former co-director of the Phoenix VA hospital’s ER, said in her prepared testimony that strokes, heart attacks, internal head bleeding and various other serious medical conditions were often missed by staffers. She said they were “overwhelmed by the glut of patients” and could not keep up with “the dangerous flood of patients.” At first, her complaints were simply ignored, that is, until Dr. Mitchell was transferred, suspended and reprimanded.

“It is a bitter irony that our VA cannot guarantee high-quality health care in the middle of cosmopolitan Phoenix,” she said.

All of the whistleblowers urged Congress to pass legislation offering more protections to ensure whistleblowers will not be intimidated, humiliated or retaliated against. They also said the VA is sorely lacking leadership with integrity, a not-so shocking revelation considering most of the VA bureaucracy and middle-level leadership roles are filled with civilians, not veterans.

Rep. Jeff Miller (R-FL), the chairman of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, gave accolades to the whistleblowers for have the courage to come forward, despite threats of retaliation that included involuntary transfers and suspensions.

“Unlike their supervisors, these whistleblowers have put the interests of veterans before their own,” Miller said. “They understand that metrics and measurements mean nothing without personal responsibility.”

Following the testimony last night, James Tuchschmidt, the No. 2 official at the Veterans Health Administration, had little choice but to offer an apology, though words are not likely to suffice.

“I apologize to everyone whose voice has been stifled,” Tuchschmidt said. “That’s not what I stand for. I’m very disillusioned and sickened by all of this.”

Israel attacks Gaza Strip

The Israeli military confirmed early Wednesday that it it attacked more than 160 sites in Gaza on the second day of an offensive aimed at stopping Hamas rocket attacks “once and for all.” Now, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is calling on the international community and the United Nations to “provide international protection” for the Palestinian people.

Targets struck were aimed at key cities across Israel, including 118 concealed rockets launching sites and six Hamas compounds. Several Hamas-controlled naval police targets, various national security compounds, 10 militant command centers, weapons storage facilities and 10 tunnels used for militant activity and to ferry supplies in from Egypt, were all included in the more than 400 sites in Gaza Israel has struck since the offensive launched Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Palestinian health officials claim at least 32 people have been killed in the strikes.

Israeli Army spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner told reporters that the attacks are intended to take a “substantial toll” on Hamas and to severely limit its rocket-launching capability. He said the Israeli military would incrementally increase the attacks on Gaza, as what were growing concerns of strikes on Israel’s population centers have become a reality.

Tuesday night, Hamas lobbed roughly 160 rockets into Israeli territory, including one that had reached the northern city of Hadera, approximately 60 miles from Gaza. The BBC reported that rockets fired from Gaza reached Jerusalem late Wednesday, but fell without causing injury.

“The organization is going to pay for its aggression. It is literally holding us hostage with its rockets,” Lerner said. “The country is not willing for this situation to continue.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday that continued increased rocket attacks against Israel from Hamas in the Gaza Strip would be met with overwhelming retaliation.

“I have ordered the military to significantly broaden its operation against Hamas terrorists and against the other terrorist groups inside Gaza,” Netanyahu said in a televised address.

Yitzhak Aharonovitch, the minister for internal security and a member of Netanyahu’s inner Security Cabinet said that Israel would not take the option to conduct a ground invasion off the table. “If we need to go inside in a ground operation, then we will do it. These things are on the table. These options exist. We will not stop anything until the rocket firing ends,” said Aharonovitch.

Thus far, the Israeli army authorized to activate up to 40,000 reservists for a potential ground offensive. Army officials said that about 1,000 soldiers were immediately activated, which adds to the 1,500 reservists previously called into active service.

Israel has not launched a ground offensive since 2009, and just two years earlier in 2007, Hamas seized control of the Gaza Strip from their former rival, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. However, last month, Abbas formed a unity government backed by Hamas in order to hold on to power, which Netanyahu has said makes him responsible for their actions, including the murders of the three kidnapped teenagers that set off the latest round of violence.

Israel and Hamas eventually agreed to a cease-fire deal brokered by Egypt, which ended the fierce fighting back in late 2012. Abu Obeida, the masked spokesman for Hamas in Gaza, said Israel was in violation of that 2012 agreement, and demanded Israel stop the airstrikes.

“In the face of this aggression, we affirm that the Zionist enemy should not dream of calm and stability,” he said.

Yet, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Hamas wanted to deescalate the violence and restore peace to the region.

“I have been in contact with the regional and international parties in the last few days, particularly Hamas leaders in Gaza, and everyone I’ve talked to expressed his willingness to restore the truce and stop the escalation,” Abbas said.

Still, actions speak louder than words to Israeli military officials, who say the bombardment will continue until Hamas is either severely diminished, in surrender or destroyed.

senate leaders

On left, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) sits to the right of the man who may soon take his job, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

If voter expectations counts for anything, which it does, then the Republican Party will tout a new poll showing the majority of Americans now say they will retake control of the Senate in 2014. Further, most voters say a GOP Senate means they will see a noticeable change in their lives, and considering just 26.5 percent believe the country is headed in the right direction, the poll is all-around bad news for Democrats.

A new Rasmussen Reports survey found that 54 percent of likely voters think it is at least somewhat likely that the GOP will retake the Senate, which is a 10-point increase from the previous survey in early January. The number includes 20 percent who say it is very likely, while only 29 percent consider a Republican takeover of the Senate to be unlikely. However, that number includes only 5 percent of likely voters who say it is not at all likely.

Interestingly, the latest generic congressional ballot, which Rasmussen tracks on weekly basis, shows Democrats with a small 3-point edge over Republicans. Yet, the data actually suggests the poll may be worse for the Democrats than it appears at first glance. Early generic ballot polling has consistently underestimated Republican support, likely due to the lack of likely voter models in the average.

But that’s not even the worst of it.

Democrats currently lead Republicans by a slightly smaller 2-point margin on the PPD average, which historical data suggest wouldn’t even translate into a 3-seat pick-up in the House, let alone save Harry Reid from Mitch McConnell in the Senate. Currently, according to the PPD 2014 Senate Map Predictions model, the Republican Party is favored to win control of the Senate, picking up a net gain of 6 – 8 seats.

The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on July 2, 2014 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.

It would matter little if the newest and provocative book from Ed Klein, Blood Fued, was the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Regardless, as we will see more in the future, the media cannot help but jump when the Clinton’s demand it.

Appearing on “Hannity” last night to discuss his new book, Klein discussed the details of the less-than friendly relationship between the Clintons and the Obamas. Hannity and Klein also talked about Hillary’s monumental, or “epic book failure” despite no small measure of free advertising from the so-called Free Press.

Now, Business Insider ran to Hillary’s rescue with a puff-piece citing one “source close to the Clintons,” who “fired back with a scathing, lengthy email to Business Insider blasting Klein as a pathological liar.”

“This might sound hyperbolic, but there is no bigger liar in the entire world,” Hunter Walker, author of the piece claims the source said of Klein. “Lying isn’t even the word for it. It’s some kind of sickness where every single thing you write is fabricated. Every. Single. Thing. I mean, even the photos in his book were found to be altered.”

Walker goes on to trash Klein, who was an editor at both Newsweek and the New York Times Magazine, as well as a contributing editor at Vanity Fair. He points to other supposedly “debunking” and “fact-checking” challenges to Klein’s past works, including his 2005 book, The Truth About Hillary, and The Amateur. Of course, those so-called fact-checkers are also liberal, Hillary acolytes.

To be fair, some of Klein’s work requires a bit of faith, or believing Klein is credible enough to believe his sources are telling the truth. However, Walker is hypocritically asking readers to disbelieve Klein’s reporting, which is based upon multiple sources, because of an invisible email from his one source. The liberally-bias media has obviously forgotten that journalistic standards and ethics require more than one source, or some other form of collaboration.

It is no secret the Clintons do not like the Obamas, and visa versa. With or without Klein’s reporting, the Beltway is well-aware that Bill Clinton will never forgive Obama for pulling the race card on him during the South Carolina Democratic primary, and only agreed to use his popularity with the American people to get Obama re-elected at the Democratic National Convention in return for a Hillary 2016 coronation. Several people close to Bill Clinton said he was voting for Mitt Romney in 2012, the  man “Bubba” claimed had a “stellar resume” worthy of presidential qualifications.

Unlike, an amateur.

The problem is that Klein exposed Obama’s plan to stab the Clintons in the back, again. President Obama is reportedly planning on backing junior Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren in 2016. Ironically, Warren was caught on tape mimicking the same “you didn’t build that” rhetoric of redistribution that landed Obama in hot water. So, it is understandable and believable the Clintons would want Klein’s new book discredited, because if Obama is reneging on their deal, then it once-again shows they have been naive to trust a dishonest amateur.

Hillary Clinton's media acolytes are racing to

Israeli military officials confirmed Tuesday that airstrikes targeting at least 50 sites in the Gaza Strip are part of a new offensive to stop Hamas rocket attacks.

In a statement, military officials said its goal was to “retrieve stability to the residents of southern Israel, eliminate Hamas’ capabilities and destroy terror infrastructure operating against the State of Israel and its civilians.”

President Obama penned an op-ed in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, urging both sides to use restraint. However, Obama’s effectiveness on the world stage apparently never reached the Middle East, if anywhere, and the violence continued to escalate Tuesday.

“We have repeatedly warned Hamas that this must stop and Israel’s defense forces are currently acting to put an end of this once and for all,” said Mark Regev, a spokesman for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The latest Israeli-Palestian conflict began when officials made a grim discovery, locating the bodies of three previously kidnapped Israeli teens in shallow graves in the West Bank. Eyal Yifrach, 19; Gilad Shaar, 16 and Naftali Frenkel, 16, were snatched by Hamas earlier in June. Frenkel held duel U.S.-Israeli citizenship. Israeli forces searched more than 1,000 sites, rounding up Hamas and Islamic Jihad suspects as part of the operation.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had promised to make Hamas pay, claiming there was overwhelming evidence that the terrorist group was behind the attack. Even Sec. of State John Kerry said last week that it appears from U.S. intel reports that Hamas was behind the kidnapping.

The kidnappings and subsequent news of their murders sparked outraged in Israel, which Palestinians claim led to the revenge killing of Mohammed Abu Khdeir, a 16-year old Palestinian teenager. Khdeir’s charred body was found just a short after his abduction in a Jerusalem forest late last week. Israeli officials confirmed June 6 that six Jewish men being arrested in connection with a crime officials characterized as ‘nationalistic” in nature.

Israeli troops began building up on the border with the Gaza Strip after Hamas-fired rockets hit at least one residential neighborhood in Sderot last week. Among the 50 sites the military said it targeted early Tuesday were four houses they say were “activity sites” used by Hamas terrorists responsible for launching rockets at Israel. The military said the houses targeted belonged to Eiad Sakik, Abdullah Hshash, Samer Abu Daka and Hassan Abdullah.

Officials in the Israeli military also said they successfully attacked three militant compounds, 18 concealed rocket launchers and various militant Hamas sites. The operations were mostly conducted using air power, while three were targeted by naval forces.

“They chose the direction of escalation,” Israeli Army spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said in a telephone briefing to reporters. “So the mission will go on as long as we feel it is necessary to carry it out. We don’t expect it to be a short mission on our behalf.”

Lerner promised the Israeli army will gradually increase attacks in the Hamas-held Gaza Strip, and is currently recruiting army reservists for a potential ground invasion. The final option will remain on the table until Hamas ceases fire, which has not yet showed signs of occurring.

In fact, the rocket fire from the Gaza Strip resumed after a short break early Tuesday, as at least 15 more rockets were lobbed toward southern Israel, including the cities of Ashdod and Ashkelon. Five were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system, courtesy of a friendly U.S. ally in the past decades.

Israel’s defense minister announced a special state of emergency in the region Tuesday as summer camps and kindergartens were shut down and residents were encouraged to stay close to their homes.

“All parties must protect the innocent and act with reasonableness and restraint, not vengeance and retribution,” Obama wrote in the op-ed published Tuesday.

Obama warned of a “dangerous moment” for the region after the collapse of U.S.-backed peace talks.

“As I said last year in Jerusalem, peace is necessary, just, and possible. I believed it then. I believe it now,” he wrote. “Peace is necessary because it’s the only way to ensure a secure and democratic future for the Jewish state of Israel.”

Yet, despite Obama’s plea, Israeli officials say they must respond with greater force to a level of activity not seen from Hamas in recent memory. Since the unrest began, the Israeli military claims Hamas has launched nearly 300 rockets and mortars into Israel from the Gaza Strip, including a whopping 80 launched on Monday alone. The military claimed that 40 rockets were launched in just one hour just after the sun went down. Twelve rockets were intercepted and many others landed in open areas.

The army later said that eight more rockets were fired at Israel from Gaza since just before midnight through early Tuesday morning, and fortunately one rocket was intercepted directly above the Israeli town of Sderot, located near Israel’s border with Gaza. Lerner said Hamas has an inventory of roughly 10,000 rockets, including longer-range rockets that can reach “up to Tel Aviv and beyond.”

Because of their capability and recent emboldened attacks, Lerner said the Israeli military must prepare for the very real possibility that Hamas is gearing up to launch rockets into Israel’s heartland, including its commercial hub and cultural centers.

Israeli military officials confirmed Tuesday that airstrikes

immigration crisis

The immigration crisis on our southern border is completely out of control and our federal government is looking the other way.

It’s hard to believe that the authorities in charge are more interested in restricting protestors’ free speech rights than a potentially hostile enemy encroaching on our border. While on the news we are shows images of pleasant children dressed in Disney shirts, who look like vulnerable and helpless victims, the real truth of the matter is being hidden from us.

The truth is that diseased and infected criminals are being exported into the United States in a brazen maneuver designed to overwhelm our social welfare system. This is why workers at these “immigration centers” are being ordered to keep quiet, and congressmen face arrest if they dare go to facilities and report what they see.

Let me explain what is going on.

The border crisis is a 5th column effort orchestrated by various elements of world powers with a common goal — returning perceived, exploited wealth and exploited lands to 3rd world nations. They have a willing ear in the White House or may have even captured it with the Obama presidency, itself. Government will allow this process to continue through our conversion to a police state, at which point, depending on who is in charge and wins, will result in mass exterminations.

We also have a corrupt Congress that is complicit in these events because of either their desire for wealth and/or power, while a smaller group may be blackmailed or threatened with evidence gathered by NSA espionage. A select view may be ideological allies, as well.

They believe they are righting the wrongs of American imperialism and rebalancing the wealth in the world with their own greed as the prime goal toward endgame.

Unfortunately, this looting will not stop when the wealth is equalized, and the republic will be converted to a feudalistic state with limited power held at the corrupted top until society eventually implodes from its own greed and weakness. The net result will be another dark age, similar to the post-Roman world, punctuated with bizarre scientific experimentation on mass populations of unwilling people and individual corporate fiefdoms.

Hope that helps.

Perhaps, now, you will understand when rational and sensible people act with panic and call for the resignation and impeachment of a president with less than two years to go. It’s more than politics, it is a call to arms. People are beginning to realize that the leadership of our nation is more than left-wing, it is criminal and traitorous.

What is worse is that the mass media is complicit in this crime. Furthermore, they clearly do not think the political situation or this leadership will change anytime soon, as they seem to have no fear of what the next administration may do or who the Justice Department will prosecute.

It is clearly a takeover by government forces hostile to the traditional way of American life.

So, what are you doing about it? If you are a politically active individual, then why are you sitting, staring at this article? Why aren’t you attending your local Tea Party or town hall meetings and organizing acts of protest and civil disobedience?

Are you going to spend precious hours listening to speeches by leaders who wax poetic about what they are going to do if you elect them, or are you going to act?

What are you waiting for? The Marines are not coming — they are too busy disarming and changing diapers. The police are too busy arresting people for carrying their legal weapons into a Starbucks. Your leaders are too busy counting their money and grooming themselves in the mirror.

Get up and DO something about it instead of waiting for someone else to do it.

Rome is burning.

The immigration crisis on our southern border

Rep. Bruce Braley, a trial lawyer and Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Iowa, has single-handedly shifted a race once considered “Leans Democrat” to a borderline “Leans Republican” contest. In March, Braley was caught on video trashing Iowa farmers and the extremely popular Republican incumbent Senator Chuck Grassley, a mistake he could not afford to duplicate after Republicans nominated a solid candidate, Joni Ernst.

Now, a video shared with the Des Moines Register shows Braley claiming to be a farmer during a 4th of July parade at Iowa Falls over the weekend.

“We’re farmers,” an attendee and likely voter says to Braley as he approaches. “So am I,” he answers.

“But so is Grassley,” the woman returns as she sits in a lawn chair on the side of the road. “So am I,” Braley again claims with a remarkably smug tone.

Of course, Mr. Braley is a trial lawyer, a profession he arrogantly trumpeted makes him more qualified to serve in the Senate, not a farmer. Jennifer Jacobs of the DMR dug into Braley’s latest claim.

“He doesn’t own farm land and doesn’t earn any farm income, according to his federal financial disclosure reports,” ” Jacobs noted. “He doesn’t perform or manage any farm operations, campaign aides said today.”

Republicans, who have been waiting for another blunder like this to break Ernst out in the polls, were quick to pounce on Braley.

“Bruce Braley continues to offend farmers, this time actually brazenly (and falsely) claiming to be one of them,” said NRSC Press Secretary Brook Hougesen. “This isn’t the first time Bruce Braley has been dishonest with voters, and again there’s video that proves he’s willing to say just about anything by pretending to be something he is not.”

Ironically, several other pundits doubted Ernst’s ability to win the Iowa Senate race based upon candidate quality, justifying their “Leans Democrat” rating on the possibility the Republican nominee wasn’t yet ready for primetime. And, while the majority of media outlets chose to focus on the potential for a toxic primary, which did not occur, nearly all of them failed to see the danger in the Democratic Party’s tendency to have party bosses pick nominees. If an untested candidate makes a mistake, then the party is stuck with a flawed candidate, a category Braley increasingly appears to belong in.

We recently witnessed just how politicly treacherous lock-stepping with Democratic Party bosses can be in Florida’s 13th Congressional District, where Republican David Jolly scored an upset victory over the party-picked Alex Sink. After Sink decided to sit out a rematch, party bosses pressured local NAACP chapter President Manuel Sykes to drop out of the race, opting instead to get behind independent Ed Jany, who was really a Republican until he turned Democrat posing as an independent. When Jany dropped out of the race, admitting he wasn’t ready for primetime, a once competitive (if not Leans Democrat”) seat was quickly moved out of the contested column.

People’s Pundit Daily affirmed our “Toss-Up” rating after we revisited our election projection model immediately following the Republican primary. Republican Joni Ernst is and, always was, a credible threat to what was a Democratic held seat. If Ernst defeats Democratic Rep. Bruce Braley, then she will become the first female U.S. Senator to represent the state of Iowa, leaving Mississippi as the sole state yet to elect a women to the U.S. Senate.

PPD is leaving the rating as it is, for now. However, Braley could not afford another gaffe, leaving us with little choice but to revisit the Iowa Senate race far sooner than we had previously anticipated.

protests over illegal immigrants

A Border Patrol union confirmed that many of the illegal immigrants coming into the U.S. have “active scabies and other illnesses,” and are claiming one agent already contracted the mite-borne skin infection. The union is warning disease could spread into surrounding communities and others — like the community in Murrieta, California, which turned back busloads being transported by DHS in early July — if precautions are not taken.

Counter-protestors and other proponents of a so-called pathway to citizenship claimed the Murrieta protestors brought shame on their town, but new information suggests they may have spared them an unpleasant outbreak, or worse.

The union warning comes amid a report from Todd Starnes claiming sources said at least 4 cases of tuberculosis have been confirmed at one camp in San Antonio, Texas. The latest report added to Gov. Rick Perry’s testimony last week that confirmed at least one case of H1N1, otherwise known as the swine flu.

Large numbers of illegal immigrants, many of which are minors, are crossing the U.S.-Mexico border after paying human traffickers for passage from various Central American countries. While they are being detained in Texas and other states, the government plans to fly and bus them into several different U.S. cities, including San Diego and Phoenix.

The San Diego Local 1613 chapter of the National Border Patrol Council has offered a glimpse into the truth regarding the situation on the ground, which the government has gone through great lengths to try to conceal from the American people.

“Border Patrol management is aware of the scabies outbreak but continue to ignore recommendations,” wrote Ronald Zermeno, the health and safety director for the San Diego chapter in a July 4 letter.

He added that one of their agents, who had been screening detainees even though he is not a medical professional, had contracted scabies “sometime during routine processing of the first group of 140 illegal immigrants from Texas.”

“He observed several people with open sores and which he recorded on the questionnaire,” Zermeno wrote. “He was not told about any precautions to take such as decontamination of himself and uniform. This demonstrates that we are not properly trained to identify infectious disease and to properly respond when we suspect a disease.”

He added that agents do not know which detainee may have passed on the illness, and said they suspect “they could have been already transferred to ICE custody and may have already been released in the surrounding communities.”

The CDC says scabies is a rapidly spreading infection that results from a human itch mite that burrows into the top layer of a person’s skin and lays its eggs. Symptoms include severe itching and a skin rash.

Zermeno strongly suggested to the government they should not release detainees while they await deportation hearings, as the Obama administration has been for weeks. Or, Zermeno wrote, detainees should at least be quarantined before release “to ensure that they will not transfer infectious diseases such as scabies into our communities.”

As severe as scabies may be, other reported diseases, which potentially have spread to American communities already, are far worse.

“Some of the tuberculosis that comes from Central America is drug resistant,” Dr. Marc Siegel, a professor of medicine at New York University’s Langone Medical Center, told Todd Starnes. “It’s not easier to spread but it is harder to treat. I’m concerned about that.”

“It is a disease that needs to be carefully monitored and screened for — something that is not possible under the current circumstances,” Siegel said.

Nurses caring for illegal immigrants at Lackland in San Antonio, told Starnes they know of at least four teenagers in their camp who have a confirmed case of tuberculosis.

“The nurses are telling us the kids are really sick,” the source told Starnes. “The tuberculosis is definitely there.”

Several lawmakers have been denied access to the facilities, leading many to conclude disease was intentionally being swept under the rug. Last month, the National Association of Former Border Patrol Officers called the refugee crisis an “orchestrated and contrived assault” by a government with an agenda. A new survey found the American people agree, as nearly half of U.S. voters believe the Obama administration has caused the wave of illegal immigrants at the border, and most Americans want them sent back home immediately.

Instead, the Obama administration is planning on relaxing penalties for border crossings even further.
