Support for Abortion Decreases, But Ignorance in Support of Abortion is Strong

As the American public becomes more educate on the reality of the industry, the support for abortion decreases, but ignorance in support of abortion remains strong.

The debate over Texas SB5 has brought this issue up to the political front lines once more, and supporters of abortion have brought with them the same old factually incorrect arguments. In, Support for Abortion and the GOP “Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act”, I ran through the numbers that clearly demonstrate that the pro-life majority has reemerged.

I have repeatedly stated that although I am personally opposed to abortion, nevertheless, I typically oppose legislation banning abortion for several reasons. To clarify, I will quickly lay out the reasons that true conservatives should agree with me, then I will move on to address the ignorance of the pro-choice position.

Firstly, and most obvious, is that I do not advocate in favor of arbitrarily pulling the levers of government when it is convenient to my own beliefs. When leaders who do not share my own private beliefs win popular support, which is inevitable, they will use the precedent to legislate based on beliefs that I do not agree with, and I will have no legal argument or recourse to prevent it. It is a never-ending battle over popular support that, in the end, can only cause social unrest such as the case with Roe vs. Wade and the issue of abortion. You cannot legislate the hearts and minds of human beings, you must win them in the culture.

Consequently, Norma McCorvey the plaintiff in Roe vs. Wade who lied by claiming rape in order to have an abortion in Texas, has changed her mind on the issue of abortion. You won’t hear much of that from the state-run liberal media, but she admits to wanting an abortion because she just didn’t like the father anymore, and now she tours the country speaking out against abortion. And oh yeah, she is no longer claiming to be gay.

Now one might say that it is the business of the government to protect the life of the unborn, future citizens. To that I simply say: no society can effectively legislate morality any more that it can coerce immorality among a virtuous people.

Even the puritans, who were the force behind the “Great Migration” to avoid the latter, did not attempt to write laws of morality into their charters, but rather lived – rewarded – and punished – through societal norms and congregational leadership who carried such acts out were independent from government. They understood that government involvement in areas of private life set dangerous precedent, and could be used against you and your own beliefs once it was established as a proper police power of the State. This is the position the religious right has now found themselves in respecting abortion, same-sex marriage, etc.

The so-called pro-choice movement consists of two types of abortion supporters. The hardcore leftists are more pro-antilife than pro-choice. That is to say, they are well aware of the historical events and truth about the founder of the movement, Margaret Sanger, and her lifelong crusade to eradicate the black community, and others perceived to be the weak in our society. A healthy dose of euthanasia and eugenics could cure society of what ails them – hence, the organization Planned Parenthood.

The other group that constitutes the pro-choice – rather, pro-abortion – are those who buy the fast food garbage that the hardcore leftists are selling. A “woman’s right to choose,” looking out for “women’s health,” keeping “Republicans out of our bedrooms,” etc., they eat that garbage up. The result is typically – although there is another small group absent of this ignorance – is still a good deal of complete and utter ignorance to the specifics of the issue.

One of the most common and incorrect claims, is that women do not use abortion as a contraception, or for birth control. Unfortunately, that is simply untrue. Gone are the days and the image of a teenage girl with militantly religious parents who accidentally became pregnant after a night of poorly thought-through lust.

According to Kathleen Sabelius’ Health and Human Services Department, on average, women give 3 major reasons for choosing abortion. An incredible 3/4 say that having a baby would interfere with work, school or other responsibilities; about 3/4 say they cannot afford a child; and 1/2 say they do not want to be a single parent or are having problems with their husband or partner (AGI). Obviously, there is overlap occurring because it may be one or more of the three reasons per women, but it is clear that abortions are indeed used as a form of contraception.

The left makes a big to-do over instances of the women’s health being at rick, but only 12% of women report a physical problem with their health among reasons for having an abortion (NAF), and 1% reported that they were the survivors of rape (NAF). Nearly half of all pregnancies among American women are unintended, with about 4 in 10 of these resulting in terminated by abortion, 22% of all U.S. pregnancies end in abortion. (AGI).

In my very popular column this week, The Left Shows Their True Extreme Abortionist Colors on Texas SB5, I question how those who are supposedly aligned with science could possibly justify abortions after 5 – 6 months. Referring to abortions in terms of weeks – 20 weeks in the case of Texas SB5 and D.C. House version – is unacceptable, and nothing more than an attempt from the left to dehumanize humans.

*Gestational weeks are measured from the first day of the woman’s last menstruation and not from the day of conception. Though it does not provide an accurate fetal age (which is roughly 2 weeks less than the gestational age), it is the simplest way for an OB/GYN to age a pregnancy since the day of conception is often not known. Hence, if an abortion occurs at 8 weeks gestation, it is actually aborting a 6 week embryo. The images on our Prenatal Development and Abortion Pictures pages are more precisely captioned with fetal ages in accordance with standard teaching texts on prenatal development.

Thankfully, the vast amount of abortions do not occur during the period that science has already established to be a period that babies can feel pain, as 88% – 92% of all abortions happen during the first trimester, prior to the 13th week of gestation (AGI/CDC). In 2009, for instance, 7% of all abortions were performed at 14-20 weeks’ gestation and 1.3% were performed at ≥21 weeks’ gestation (CDC).

Why would the left have such an enormous problem and extreme position compromising on a ban passed the 20 week – again, 5 month – mark? Because it is not about a woman’s right to choose, financing fetal fatalities is a public policy designed to “decrease the surplus population.” Prior to Obamacare, which provides federal funding for abortions, 17 states (AKAZCACTHIILMAMDMNMTNJNMNYORVTWA and WV) used public funds to pay for abortions. About 14% of all abortions in the United States were paid for with public funds (virtually all from the state) (AGI).

The larger point, is that the whole issue is a lie, clouding a massive epidemic of cowardice with political correctness. If you believe in killing 5 – 6 month old babies because you are morally okay with it, then fine, but have the courage of your convictions to call it for what it is. I for one will no longer allow cowardly fathers, diluted women, and misguided despotic politicians push a lie because it makes them feel better about their treachery.

If you are a proponent of this culture of abortion, support the abortion industry, or buy in to the lies because it makes you feel better, than you are a baby killer. Now have the courage to admit it.
